Everyone has the right to their own journey
When I discovered the links between diet and cancer and began researching lifestyle changes, I assumed everyone would be as thrilled to learn about them as I was. I began by sharing our newfound dietary wisdom with our family members. Then I shared it with other cancer patients. Next, with other friends. I was surprised to discover that everyone thinks that what they are doing is healthy and the best course of action. My husband and I certainly thought we were eating healthy when our food was loaded with meat, dairy, eggs, salt, oil, sugar, and artificial ingredients.
Okay, so maybe our families didn’t respond as I expected. Wouldn’t cancer patients jump at the chance to make their bodies healthy and inhospitable to cancer? It turns out that our culture is so indoctrinated by conventional medicine, conflicting dietary suggestions, and the western diet promoted by companies pushing their unhealthy products and putting profits ahead of health, that most people have no idea what a healthy diet is. Although research has proven that a plant-based diet centered around—you guessed it—whole plant foods like legumes, greens, whole grains, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds can reverse and prevent many health issues like diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, and even cancer, this information is not widely known or easily believed. People believe what they want to believe. Each one of us is entitled to choose our health journey, even if it leads us to an early grave.
I want every cancer patient to know that lifestyle changes are a treatment option. I didn’t know that my lifestyle could make me healthy. And I will always regret not changing my diet and other habits before accepting chemotherapy. My website offers the information I wish I’d known so that you can make a more informed choice than I did.
