Amy inside a red British telephone booth during a cruise excursion.

In the school of cancer, Amy Ney was a new student. Diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer at the young age of 48 in 2022, she was crushed when—only halfway through her six cycles of chemotherapy—her first oncologist predicted an imminent and irreversible recurrence.

Although Amy wanted to hide under the blankets on the couch with her newly-adopted tortoiseshell cat, something in her rose up to meet the challenge. It was a mixture of hope and determination to prove that oncologist wrong. Amy put her faith in God’s promise to her in Mark 5:34, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” And she snatched control of her health from the grasp of her oncologist and switched cold-turkey to a whole-food, plant-based diet without salt, oil, or sugar. Her excess weight slipped away, her physical health and vitality skyrocketed, her emotional health improved, and her relationship with God deepened. But most importantly, her post-chemo CT scan revealed No Evidence of Disease and her new oncologist gave the all-clear at her three- and six-month follow-up appointments.

Buoyed by the forward momentum, and unphased by her usually supportive husband’s assertion that she was being “overly cautious,” Amy doubled her reading and her efforts, working to heal her gut, soul, mind, and immune system and make her body inhospitable to cancer with a wide array of additional lifestyle changes. Introspection was her new best friend as she sought to identify the areas of her life that needed healing, from familial experiences and workplace environments to past relationships and cultural expectations.

At two years cancer-free, Amy and her husband downsized their home and yard into a smaller and easier to maintain retirement house. At three years, she finally graduated to less test angst and a six-month window between follow-up appointments. And she focused her energy into transforming her cryptic journal into a book-length self-help memoir offering hope and hard-earned wisdom to other cancer survivors. Her book is at times irreverent and heartbreaking as she peels back the emotional and eye-opening curtain of her cancer experience and the ineffectiveness of our conventional medicine that simultaneously seeks to kill both healthy and cancerous cells rather than trying to bolster the immune system, creating health from the inside out.

Amy shares her hard-earned wisdom about her experience at every opportunity and would love to speak to your group or audience. You can find her, lists of her favorite resources and lifestyle changes, and her blog at AmyNey.com.
